Call is open for submitting chapter proposal to open access book by InTech open access book publisher

“Biosensing Technologies for the Detection of Pathogens – A Prospective Way for Rapid Analysis”

The detection of pathogens – microorganisms which can cause disease to its host – is the key issue to the prevention, identification and treatment of problems associated with health and safety. Despite the growing need for quick analytical results, traditional pathogen detection methods may take up to several days to produce an answer.

The development of new approaches, in particular various biosensing technologies, allows to identify and quantify pathogens in a considerably quicker way and carry out reliable real time monitoring in their natural surroundings. However, there is still a long way to go before biosensors become a serious alternative to standard methods.

This book aims to provide an overview of the recent trends in the development of biosensor – based technologies for the detection of pathogens along with their application opportunities in different areas like environmental monitoring, food testing, medicine and veterinary diagnostics. Attention is also paid to methods for improving the analytical parameters of biosensors including sensitivity, selectivity and analysis time as well as automation. In addition, the basic principles of pathogens biorecognition and biosensing are described and explained.

Theoretical and applied scientific papers which can be presented as original research papers and review papers are accepted.
